The uniform for the orientation and your first few classes is loose and comfortable clothing; i.e., shorts/t-shirt, athletic pants, etc. After successfully completing six (6) classes and showing a desire to continue karate training, you will be awarded a school patch and the opportunity to purchase a karate uniform (“gi”).
This will vary from student to student based on commitment, willingness to learn, and attendance. If you attend 2-3 class sessions each week and practice on your own, you can expect to promote belts approximately every 8 weeks. At that pace, those desiring to attain black belt could do so in about two (2) years.
Sensei Hunley will work with you to make sure that your transition is efficient, effective and hassle free. Your correct placement in the ranks can be a critical factor in regards to your effort and enthusiasm while training in a new environment. We do not recognize according to the color of the belt you are wearing, but rather your rank based on the kyu level within your current system, by matching it to the kyu system within NSGRA. Any student that transfers to our style, must spend ample time in our system before given the opportunity to test for your next belt rank level; which could take six months to a year. We can discuss this in depth at your orientation session.
